About the job

We are now looking for a backend developer to join our team located at the Keizersgracht in the center of Amsterdam. Be our first in-house backend tech hire and help shape our innovative marketplace to make work accessible for everyone globally.

We're currently working with an agency to develop our platform, and this will be our first internal backend position to grow the in-house tech team.

Objective:

Spearhead the team’s technical success by building, validating, and maintaining the backend technical roadmap.

Scope:

  • Reporting to the co-founder.

  • Be the first in-house backend tech hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain backend services with a focus on scalability, security, and reliability.

  • Build and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices to support seamless frontend interaction.

  • Design and manage database architectures (MySQL) for efficiency and performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new features.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployment processes.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve backend application performance, ensuring high availability.

  • Manage infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform.

Requirements

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in PHP and Symfony.

  • Strong knowledge of MySQL and database optimization.

  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.

  • AI and machine learning knowledge is a plus.

Experience:

  • >5 years of work experience with backend development.

  • Proven track record of developing scalable backend applications.

  • Experience in database management and performance optimization.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on complex projects from concept to deployment.

  • Experience in managing and deploying applications in cloud environments.

Soft skills:

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with marketplaces and AI-driven projects.

  • Understanding of generative AI for backend interactions.
